Becoming a Christlike Leader equips mentors, coaches, churches, and ministry teams to cultivate leaders whose character increasingly reflects Jesus
Lausanne Movement has launched Becoming a Christlike Leader, a free four-part video series designed to help mentors, coaches, churches, and ministry teams place Christlike character at the heart of leadership development.
Forming the person behind the role
Through this series, Lausanne invites those who develop others to create space for deeper formation—not simply preparing leaders to serve more effectively, but helping them draw closer to Jesus and increasingly reflect his character.
Rooted in the Sermon on the Mount and shaped by voices and experiences from across the global church, the series creates space for honest conversations about the person behind the leadership role—and what it means to become more like Jesus as we lead.
Becoming a Christlike Leader invites participants to look more deeply at who a leader is becoming. Competence matters, but character governs how leaders use their skills, influence, authority, and responsibility.
‘Many of us know the deep disappointment of seeing gifted Christian leaders fall—sometimes leaders we’ve admired from afar, sometimes leaders we’ve called friends. These painful experiences remind us that gifting, skill, and competence are no substitutes for Christlike character. This is why Lausanne’s vision of Christlike leaders for every church and sector matters so deeply. If we want to see the gospel faithfully proclaimed and displayed, we must invest not only in what leaders can do, but in who they are becoming.’

A four-part journey
Across four sessions, participants move from recognising Christlike character to considering how it is cultivated and tested:
- What Does Christlike Leadership Look Like? explores character as the foundation of faithful leadership.
- What Kind of Leadership Does Jesus Bless? considers the leadership qualities Jesus calls blessed in the Sermon on the Mount.
- How Can Leaders Remain Faithful Under Pressure? examines integrity and trust when a leader’s character is tested.
- How Can Leaders Become More Like Jesus? helps participants identify a concrete next step of faithful obedience.
Biblical teaching, global voices, and lived stories are combined with reflection, prayer, and guided conversation. The series encourages participants to respond through Scripture, community, accountability, and dependence on the Holy Spirit.
Created for use with others
The videos are accompanied by a coaching and discussion guide, which helps mentors, facilitators, and groups engage more deeply with each session, and a devotional guide for personal reflection and faithful response. All the resources are free to access, download, share, and use.
The series can be used in a range of leadership-development settings:
- Mentoring and coaching: As a starting point for honest, formative conversations with emerging and established leaders.
- Leadership teams: To examine the character and culture being formed within a team, not only the character of individual leaders.
- Churches and ministries: To integrate Christlike character formation into discipleship, ministry preparation, and leadership development.
Made possible through faithful partnership
The creation and free distribution of Becoming a Christlike Leader have been made possible through Lausanne’s faithful partners. Their generosity enables Lausanne to develop practical, biblically grounded resources and make them freely available to leaders, churches, and ministries around the world.
