Empowering International Students from the Majority World to Thrive in the Global North

29 May 2026

International student ministry in the Global North has long been seen as an opportunity to reach the nations on our campuses. Yet today’s reality is even more striking: many international students come from countries with vibrant and rapidly growing Christian communities. In many cases, they are not only recipients of ministry—they may also be participants in God’s mission.

Join the Lausanne Movement’s International Student Ministry for a 75-minute interactive webinar on ‘From the Majority World to the Global North: Empowering International Students from the Majority World to Thrive in the Global North’.

Dr Ria Llanto Martin (Director of Intercultural and Global Services at Columbia Theological Seminary, Senior Research Fellow for Kwiverr and Intercultural Teamwork faculty from Dallas International University) will explore how global student mobility is reshaping mission.

Many of the largest groups of international students come from countries such as China, India, and South Korea—nations with some of the world’s largest Christian communities. This invites us to rethink ISM, recognizing that international students may also contribute to the renewal of the church in the Global North.

Together we will consider how this emerging pattern of ‘glocalized’ and multidirectional mission is unfolding through international students, and how ministries and churches can better support them to thrive during their time abroad.
