The Lausanne Movement is pleased to announce the opening of participant nominations for Lausanne 4 gatherings, which include the various regional gatherings in 2023 and the Seoul 2024 Congress.
Participant Selection
The prayerful, open, and rigorous participant selection process is one which has formed a core element in every major gathering and congress hosted by the Lausanne Movement. The process exists to ensure that each gathering appropriately reflects the rich diversity and gifting of the global church—across the regions of the world, across generations, and across spheres of influence.
The participant selection committee will oversee the nomination and selection process. The committee is led by Las Newman, global associate director for regions, and Joseph Vijayam, catalyst for the Lausanne Workplace Ministry Network. Nominations will open on 1 February 2023 and close on 15 April 2023.
Prospective participants must meet the selection criteria in order to be eligible to be nominated by Christian leaders and influencers. Essential aspects of the selection criteria include a personal commitment to God’s global mission, exemplary character, a growing sphere of influence, willingness to engage in collaborative action, affirmation of key Lausanne documents, and a commitment to fully engage in the programme of the respective gathering.
Participants will be selected from a diversity of fields, including church and parachurch ministry, as well as a broad array of secular workplaces and influential areas across society. Participants will also be selected across generations, with nominations of emerging leaders who are under 40 years old being highly encouraged. The selection committee is seeking nominations of both women and men.
Gatherings
Regional Gatherings
The regional gatherings planned for 2023 aim to strengthen the listening process in each region, identify key missional action points, promote and practice fruitful collaboration, gather accurate data, and guide strategic planning toward 2050. Regional gatherings will take place in the Caribbean, Eurasia, Oceania, East Asia, South East Asia, Latin America, North America, South Asia, Europe, and Africa. Seoul 2024 Congress
The Seoul 2024 Congress will be held at Songdo Convensia in Incheon, South Korea, from 22–28 September 2024. The Congress seeks to bring together around 5,000 in-person and 5,000 virtually-engaged participants from every region of the world. Lausanne is aiming to have 25 percent of the total number of participants be younger or emerging leaders under 40 years old, 40 percent women, and 40 percent from secular workplaces (those who do not receive their primary income from a church or ministry organisation).
Selection Process
The participant selection process is as follows:
- Prospective participants are nominated by a Christian leader or influencer. The deadline for nominations is 15 April 2023.
- Nominees are invited to submit an online application form. The deadline for applications is 8 May 2023.
- The participant selection committee carefully reviews each application and selects participants for the Congress.
- The selected applicants are invited to register. If the applicant fails to register, the next-in-line applicant will be invited to register.
- Registered applicants look forward to participating in the gathering that they have been selected for.
