Mobilizing the Whole Church for Kingdom Impact in Every Sphere of Society

Despite the deep biblical affirmation of work as a sacred calling, a harmful divide between the “sacred” and “secular” still shapes much of Christian thinking. This disconnect has left many believers feeling as though their work—outside of professional ministry—lacks spiritual value.

As the Cape Town Commitment boldly declares:

“We challenge the all-too-common worldview that sharply divides the sacred from the secular, and the church from the world. We reject as unbiblical the notion that ‘religious’ activity is the only way to serve God; rather, we affirm that all of life, including daily work in business, industry, government, academia, and the home, is part of God’s calling.”
(CTC II-A-3)

Work and mission are not two separate callings—they are one whole-life calling to bear witness to Christ in every sphere. But the truth is this: God is at work in every profession, every industry, and every vocation. All legitimate work is integral to God’s mission in the world.

From Global to Local: Building on the Momentum of GWF 2019

In 2019, the Lausanne Movement hosted the Global Workplace Forum (GWF) in Manila, uniting global influencers to affirm that the whole church is called to bring the whole gospel to the whole world—including the workplace.

Now, we’re going deeper and more local. In partnership with Lausanne regions worldwide, we’re launching Regional Lausanne Workplace Forums—contextualised gatherings to equip, encourage, and mobilise the Church for gospel impact in the workplace.

Why Regional Forums?

The 2019 Global Workplace Forum gathered a diverse cross-section of workplace leaders—65% of whom came from outside traditional ministry roles. That forum affirmed the need for this conversation to become local—with greater contextual relevance, cultural insight, and ongoing momentum. These forums will:

Energise workplace believers by casting a fresh vision for the sacredness of work and the power of everyday witness.

Equip participants with tools, best practices, and stories shaped by local realities but rooted in global wisdom.

Engage the wider Church—pastors, marketplace leaders, and younger generations—to build a new model of mission that includes every vocation.

What to Expect

Each forum will reflect the unique context and culture of its region while staying anchored in the vision of the Lausanne Movement:

You can expect:

  • Diverse representation across sectors, generations, and professions—including underrepresented voices
  • Practical training and theological reflection on integrating faith and work
  • Strategic planning for regional collaboration and workplace discipleship
  • A catalytic environment to launch new initiatives and build lasting networks

Participants and Nomination Criteria

Each regional Lausanne Workplace Forum is shaped by the people in the room. That’s why we give careful, prayerful attention to the nomination and selection process. These gatherings are not simply about attendance—they are about influence, collaboration, and impact across generations, sectors, and Lausanne’s 28 global issue networks.

We are intentionally seeking a diverse and representative group of participants from each region. Our aim is that:

those not primarily employed by churches or ministry organizations

reflecting the vital role of women in every sector of society

to ensure intergenerational learning and future-facing strategies

To be considered for participation, nominees should embody the following characteristics:

  • A vibrant spiritual life and deep commitment to evangelism and global witness
  • Godly character and a strong reputation—both in the workplace and the wider community
  • Influence that extends beyond their primary workplace, impacting others for Christ
  • A proven track record of engagement in workplace ministry or witness
  • A collaborative spirit with a kingdom mindset, committed to unity in mission
  • A lived integration of faith and work in daily life
  • Affirmation of both The Lausanne Covenant and The Cape Town Commitment
