East Asia has a population of 1.7 billion people, of which only 9% are Christians. Atheistic communism, Buddhism, and traditional Confucius culture and religions are the dominant worldviews, along with the rise of influences such as globalisation, urbanisation, technology, materialism, and secularisation.

Despite growing severity of Christian persecution in certain countries, East Asia experiences tremendous church growth and many countries are enjoying a time of peace and prosperity. With a maturing church, stronger spirituality from persecution, financial resources, and global access, the church in East Asia is committed to bringing the gospel to unreached areas of the world.

In the wake of momentous church growth in this region, we praise God that the church in East Asia has been chosen to host the The Fourth International Congress on World Evangelization in 2024 in Seoul, South Korea. May God continue to lead this movement of faith in action, together with the Lausanne Movement aiding the Whole Church to take the Whole Gospel to the Whole World.

Pray for our work in East Asia

  1. Persecuted church to persevere despite extreme hardship – Pray for the persecuted church, particularly in North Korea and China, to persevere despite extreme hardship, and for God to use the persecution and suffering to further spread the gospel.
  2. Faithfulness in our witness – Pray that we would find opportunities to be faithful in our witness as we encounter indifference to the gospel due to growing levels of globalisation, urbanisation, technology, materialism, and secularisation.
  3. We would be alert and stand firm in the faith – Pray that the believers would be alert and of sober mind. Our enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Pray that we would resist him, standing firm in the faith. (1 Peter 5:8-9)
