We are well into the Lausanne 4 journey, which includes rhythms of listening and gathering that result in action. Regional gatherings throughout 2023 will aim to deepen the listening process in each region, identify key missional action points, promote and practice fruitful collaboration, gather accurate data to inform The State of the Great Commission Report, and guide strategic planning toward 2050.
The Latin America regional gathering will take place from 19-22 September 2023 in Montevideo, Uruguay.
We joyfully anticipate being together to share, engage, reflect, and collaborate together united by God’s global mission and how he is at work in Latin America.
When and where will the meeting take place?
In Montevideo, Uruguay, from 19-22 September 2023. We will meet in the facilities of Hope Church in Montevideo. We thank their pastors and the congregation who have kindly and generously made themselves available to host our gathering.
What to expect?
Through discussion we will analyse the state of the church in Latin America and our contribution to the global church. We seek an opportunity where our voice can be heard and where we can contribute to the process leading up to Seoul 2024.
What will the programme of the meeting be like?
The meeting will be a hybrid of participation in person and virtually, however the focus will be on face-to-face participation. There will be plenary meetings and opportunities for discussion and group work with the book of Acts as our guiding text. We invite you to read it beforehand and keep it in mind as we engage in the text together. We also invite you to read the Lausanne Covenant and the Cape Town Commitment in preparation for this gathering.
Who can attend?
Attendance is by invitation only. The invitees will be selected from among those nominated for Seoul 2024. We expect representatives from every country in Latin America and from different sectors and areas including pastoral, ministerial, labour, professional, commercial, educational, missionary, entities, NGOs, and others. Participants will include both men and women as well as different ages and cultures.
Is this meeting a requirement to attend Seoul 2024?
No. Attendance at the Latin American regional gathering is not compulsory in order to be invited to attend the Seoul 2024 Congress . In other words, participants who are invited to Seoul 2024 will not need to have participated in the regional meeting. That said, we hope that you will prioritise joining us at the gathering in Uruguay.
When should I arrive in Montevideo and when should I depart?
The meeting starts on Tuesday 19 September with dinner and a welcome session. Those who have paid the fee with accommodation will be able to check into the hotel from 16:00 onwards. Departure from the hotel will be on Saturday 23 September at 10:00.
What if I arrive before or leave after the date of the meeting?
Any need for accommodation and/or meals before or after the dates and times mentioned above are at the individual’s own cost. Unfortunately the local team is unable to make hotel arrangements or reservations for individuals or groups. Please arrange to arrive and depart within the stated times or make your own arrangements.
What is the cost involved of attending the gathering?
First of all, we thank the Lord and those donors who have made the cost of the meeting as affordable as possible considering the economic realities of our continent. The cost is detailed below. All values are expressed in North American dollars ($).
All participants must pay the registration fee $55.
In person attendance in Montevideo (without accommodation):
- Registration fee: $55. The deadline to pay the registration fee is 30 August.
- Participation fee: $50. No accommodation or transfers. The cost includes participation in the programme and meals.
- Total: $105. Payment in full must be made by 10 September.
In person attendance in Montevideo (including accommodation):
- Registration fee: $55. The deadline to pay the registration fee is 30 August.
- Participation fee with accommodation in double room: $100.
- Participation fee with accommodation in single room: $220 (limited)
- The cost includes participation in the programme, hotel accommodation in a double/single room, meals, and transfers from the airport to the hotel (and vice versa) and from the hotel to the church (and vice versa).
- Total: $155 for double room / 275$ for single room, Payment in full must be made by 10 September.
Virtual attendance online:
- The registration fee of $55 covers the cost of virtual participation in the meeting. The deadline to pay the registration fee is 30 August.
How do I pay the fee?
Both the $55 registration fee and the full cost of the gathering can be paid electronically online. Banking details will be shared shortly.
Can I come with another person such as my spouse?
No. Attendance is by invitation only, so unless the other person is invited, they will not be able to attend the meeting. We also inform you that there will be no childcare during the meeting.
