‘Prosperity Theology’, in the sense that the term is widely used, has undermined a true grasp of Christian discipleship, and indeed of salvation. How can we help millions of people in prosperity-preaching churches to be discerning in what they hear? Clearly wealth itself is not considered evil, as we see in examinations of the Old and New Testaments. This thorough study, the first, we believe, of its kind, draws on theologians, sociologists and ethicists. They survey the influence of prosperity teachers across the continents. Case studies are included and a way forward is offered.
