“I want the world to look different in ten years.”
At my installation service in Bangalore in June, these are the words I used to explain why I said yes to this incredibly challenging calling to lead The Lausanne Movement.
I long for the bride of Jesus Christ to be beautifully prepared for her husband! I long for the lost to hear the voice of the Son of God and live! I long for the world to look different, gloriously different in ten years! And so I accepted this invitation and pray that the Lord will continue to use The Lausanne Movement for the blessing of the global church and the advance of the global mission of God as powerfully, even more powerfully than he has in the past!
Toward that end we have an incredible opportunity between now and December 31, 2013. All new recurring gifts will be matched up to US$500,000!
A generous donor wants to challenge all those who have been blessed by The Lausanne Movement to return a portion of that blessing with committed prayer and giving. It is a challenge issued to those whose lives, prayers, heart, and mission strategy have been impacted by the game-changing concepts introduced through Lausanne gatherings (like “unreached people groups,” “holistic mission,” and the “10/40 window”); to those who recognize the unique role that The Lausanne Movement has played and continues to play in helping to set a course for the global church and mission; and to those who appreciate the rich historical legacy from the days of our founding by Dr. Billy Graham and also look with great excitement in this new season of Lausanne!
If the Lord provides through the generosity of Christians like you, it will unleash broad, deep, and wide global impact in the days ahead. In March, Lausanne will host a Global Consultation on Prosperity, Poverty, and the Gospel in Sao Paulo, Brazil. This is one of the great threats today to the church and mission. It is also one of the great opportunities to understand more deeply and gloriously the true nature of the gospel. In April in Africa we will gather global leaders to pray and strategize about equipping and resourcing the global church in its understanding of Islam and engagement with Muslims. Then in June we will gather 100 seminary presidents from around the world to consider the future of theological education and mission.
Lausanne will continue to influence influencers around the world through Lausanne Global Analysis (LGA). LGA is a unique resource for Christian leaders to be informed and inspired as they learn about important and urgent issues facing the church and mission. The most recent issue deals with current trends in persecution and features an article on how God is at work in North Korea.
In the days ahead you’ll also learn more about Lausanne’s work in raising up, mentoring, and training global younger leaders.
So please consider praying for and giving to The Lausanne Movement especially during this unique gift-doubling opportunity. Remember that the deadline is December 31, 2013.
Your gift to The Lausanne Movement will make global and eternal impact.
