We are pleased to announce the release of the Bibliographic Resources for The Cape Town Commitment.
This document is designed to enhance appreciation for the Cape Town Commimtment. It was developed to be used as an annotated bibliography to key works in a wide array of topics that concern Christians who think globally.
It can enhance courses on Missions, Global Christianity, and provide a resource for research in the over fifty topics the annnotations address. The Bibliography is keyed to the issues outlined in The Cape Town Commimement and drew on the expertise of people who work in each of the assigned areas. They were asked to name key resources on their given topic and to annotate those references so the reader could be introduced to the work and its importance. It’s our hope and prayer that not only with this list inform discussions on the issues, but that it will also give birth to additional academic classes on the Commitment or on the issues it raises.
The idea for this work emerged in a conversation between Doug Birdsall and myself back in August 2011 of the need to undergird the Commitment with a set of references that give detail to the issues the Commitment addressed. Dr. Evvy Campbell (Wheaton College) oversaw the project and I was responsible for assignments and the initial compilation. Julia Cameron participated in the editing. Naomi Frizzell gave oversight to the layout.
This material is designed to be an open-ended list, which is why it is online. We think a class design can be built around it to expose seminary students and other leaders to the array of issues Christians are concerned about as they minister to our needy world.
The beauty of its design is that professors can add to it as they wish for the specific needs of their own classes, but we hope the listing serves as a good starting point.
We plan to add to the listing as time passes, and update it annually, and we welcome you to give us feedback and recommendations.
We commend this project for your use and hope that it shows how the Commitment addresses key issues of concern for Christians around the world.

The Cape Town Commitment, issued out of Cape Town 2010, stands in the historic line of The Lausanne Covenant and Manila Manifesto. The Cape Town Commitment is a profoundly elegant and biblical affirmation of evangelical faith, framed in the language of covenantal love, and is a purposeful articulation of our call to action with regard to world evangelization.
The Commitment is the result of a three year consultation process that brought together hundreds of Christian leaders from around the world. These leaders helped identify the issues that were discussed at the Congress and then emphasized in the document. The Cape Town Commitment serves as the blue print for The Lausanne Movement for the coming decade.
