Seoul 2024: an Opportunity to Listen, Gather and Act – Together

Announcing the Fourth Lausanne Congress on World Evangelization

Lausanne Movement 04 May 2022

As an expression of our commitment to accelerating global mission, the Lausanne Movement’s global executive director / CEO, Michael Oh, announced today that the Fourth Lausanne Congress on World Evangelization will be held in Seoul, South Korea in September 2024. The announcement came at a gathering of leaders from across Asia who met together at the Incheon campus of Onnuri Church.

The Lausanne Movement, as the historic convener and trusted platform for global mission, will bring together thousands of key global mission influencers from every nation on earth for the Fourth Lausanne Congress. These will include men and women from across the body of Christ, serving God’s mission in multiple contexts. Through the process of listening and convening, we will call the church to collaborative action for the sake of the kingdom of God.

The Seoul 2024 congress will also mark the 50th anniversary of the Lausanne Movement, which began in 1974 with Billy Graham gathering together 2,700 Christian leaders from 150 countries in Lausanne, Switzerland. Since then, Lausanne has convened two further congresses in Manila (1989) and Cape Town (2010).

We believe that this will be a pivotal moment in Christian history with the Fourth Lausanne Congress being hosted in Seoul by Korea, Japan, and the broader Asian church, in close partnership with leaders from across Asia. The host committee is co-chaired by Rev Jaehoon Lee, chair of Korea Lausanne and pastor of Onnuri Church based in Seoul, and Michael Oh, the global executive director / CEO of the Lausanne Movement.

The global church is at a critical point in needing to consider both its unity and witness in the world as we seek to achieve the vision of seeing the gospel reach every person, disciple-making churches for every people and place, Christ-like leaders in every church and sector, and kingdom impact in every sphere of society.

Seoul 2024 will be a celebration of the gospel and our loving, forgiving, and gracious God who has invited us to join his mission in the world. Oh concluded, ‘We simply want to be faithful in how we are called to live in and love the world in our generation.’

Our prayer is that the world would look beautifully different in the years and generations ahead because of Seoul 2024.
