David Claydon

Former Lausanne International Director


David was director of Scripture Union in Australia and in East Asia/Pacific (1960-81) and then rector of St Matthew’s, West Pennant Hills. In 1988 he was appointed director of the Church Missionary Society (Australia). He is a canon of cathedrals in Cairo and Sydney. At the 1974 Lausanne congress, David chaired the Ad Hoc Group which produced clause 5 for The Lausanne Covenant. David was appointed in 2002 as the international director of the Lausanne Movement and directed the global congress in Pattaya, Thailand, in 2004. He published the recommendations of this congress in A New Vision, A New Heart and a Renewed Call (3 vols). As a Lausanne senior advisor, he chaired the Alliance 2.29 Committee for the next four years.

David is the missiologist for the Australian College of Theology and chairs Heads of Churches Conference, which meets with senior politicians to discuss multi-cultural affairs as these impact our Christian heritage. Most politicians have received a copy of David’s book on Islam. He also chairs two human rights committees and brings to Australia persecuted Christians in consultation with the Australian minister for immigration.
