POSITION TITLE: Director of Communications and Marketing 

DEPARTMENT: Communications

TIME COMMITMENT: Fulltime; 40 hours per week


CONTEXT

The Communications Department of the Lausanne Movement serves as the central hub for sharing the Movement’s mission, vision, and impact with audiences across the globe. Through a combination of strategic communications, content creation, and engagement initiatives, the department connects diverse stakeholders with the work of the Movement, fostering deeper participation and collaboration. 

By developing high-quality content, managing key communication channels, and supporting the Movement’s global networks and initiatives, the department strengthens connections across the Lausanne community and beyond. With a focus on storytelling, brand stewardship, and audience engagement, the Communications Department empowers leaders, inspires action, and builds a collaborative ecosystem essential for advancing God’s mission and sharing the gospel in culturally relevant and impactful ways.

POSITION SUMMARY 

As the Director of Communications and Marketing within the Lausanne Movement, you will lead the organization’s strategic communications and marketing initiatives, ensuring alignment with its mission and vision. Reporting directly to senior leadership, your primary responsibility will be to develop and implement comprehensive strategies that enhance the Movement’s visibility, engage diverse audiences, and reinforce the organization’s brand. You will oversee cross-departmental alignment in messaging, manage stakeholder communications, and drive crisis management efforts as needed.

In this role, you will guide a skilled team in creating impactful communication pieces and executing campaigns across digital, social, and traditional platforms. You will monitor industry trends, analyze performance metrics, and innovative strategies to maximize reach and engagement. Additionally, you will manage the communications and marketing budget, cultivate community and partner relationships, and represent the organization in public forums and events. Your work will advance the Movement’s impact and foster meaningful connections with stakeholders, supporting a unified, high-impact approach to global mission.

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic Communications Leadership: Develop and implement integrated communications and marketing strategies that align with organizational goals, ensuring cohesive messaging across all platforms and campaigns. Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration to synchronize efforts and drive consistency.
  • Content and Marketing Oversight: Oversee the review, approval, and scheduling of communications and marketing materials, including press releases, social media, email campaigns, and digital advertising. Manage calendars to ensure timely, aligned messaging.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Leadership Communications: Coordinate and deliver tailored messaging for senior leadership, stakeholders, and key audiences. Act as the primary point of contact for leadership communications, including crisis response and high-profile initiatives.
  • Team Development and Task Management: Lead, mentor, and manage the communications and marketing team, delegating tasks and overseeing workflows to ensure high-quality, timely deliverables. Manage relationships with vendors and service providers.
  • Integrated Marketing and Campaign Execution: Design and execute multi-channel campaigns that raise awareness, engage audiences, and support fundraising goals. Oversee digital marketing strategies, including SEO, advertising, and segmentation.
  • Community and Partner Relations: Cultivate relationships with stakeholders, partners, and influencers to promote collaboration, expand reach, and amplify impact. Represent the organization at public events and forums.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Establish metrics to measure the effectiveness of communications and marketing initiatives, analyzing performance data to refine strategies and improve engagement.
  • Brand Stewardship: Maintain cohesive brand representation across all materials, conducting audits and refining guidelines to ensure alignment with the organization’s mission and vision.
  • Budget and Resource Management: Develop and oversee the department’s budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and adjusted to meet evolving priorities.
  • Innovation and Industry Leadership: Monitor trends in communications and technology to identify opportunities for innovation, proposing new tools and practices to enhance outreach and engagement.
  • Core Team Participation: Contribute to strategic planning and leadership within the Communications Core Team, fostering a collaborative, mission-driven culture.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

Professional

  • Proven experience in a communications or marketing role, with a background in developing and implementing strategies across digital, social, and traditional platforms. Experience in a mission-driven or nonprofit organization is an asset.
  • Strong skills in strategic planning, with the ability to contribute to communication and marketing strategies that align with organizational goals, brand identity, and mission.
  • Experience in leading and managing small teams, providing guidance, support, and feedback to achieve communication and marketing goals.
  • Effective cross-functional collaboration abilities, with experience coordinating strategies and working with team leads (Content, Creative, Finance) to ensure unified messaging.
  • Familiarity with crisis communication and brand management, ensuring brand consistency and supporting leadership during sensitive communications.
  • Exceptional ability to write clear, compelling, and engaging content tailored to diverse audiences across various platforms, including press releases, social media, newsletters, and web content.
  • Ability to build relationships with community stakeholders, partners, and influencers, with experience representing an organization in public forums or meetings.
  • Familiarity with digital marketing and analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, social media analytics platforms) and project management systems.
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS), customer relationship management (CRM) software, and email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp).
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite or similar design tools for ensuring brand visual consistency.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Business, or a related field; equivalent work experience may be considered.

COMPENSATION

Payment will be arranged based on competencies and responsibilities and will be decided on an individual basis. Lausanne does not have direct employees so, the payment will be contract work with a business vendor or the prospective employee will be employed through one of our partner organizations.

LOCATION

Remote working arrangement, with required availability at different times of the day for periodic calls with staff around the world. This position may require some international travel (15-20 nights per year).
