Conservation Efforts in Ghana: Honoring God’s Creation
Where is the moral voice of the church when rivers are poisoned, forests are destroyed, and communities lose their livelihoods?
In this episode of God on the Move, Seth Appiah-Kubi shares how his Christian faith led him from a career in finance to become national director of A Rocha Ghana, a Christian conservation organization working across Ghana to protect ecosystems, wildlife, and water while supporting community livelihoods. He describes Ghana’s worsening environmental crisis—especially illegal small-scale mining (galamsey) polluting rivers with mercury and cyanide, degrading land, and threatening protected forests—alongside climate-change impacts in the savanna north. Seth explains A Rocha’s slow but growing engagement with churches through training, conferences, and partnerships, and recounts their major campaign to stop bauxite mining in the biodiverse, river-sourcing Atewa Forest, including a 2020 court case that has halted mining while they advocate for national park status and call the global church to prayer and action.

Dr. Seth Appiah-Kub
Dr. Seth Appiah-Kubi is the National Director of A Rocha Ghana. Seth has a strong experience and passion for conservation and the security of natural resources for communities that depend on them. He has been involved in conservation and creation care for almost 15 years and has been a key part in formulating the conservation models used by A Rocha Ghana, involving community-based conservation, conservation education and conservation research.
Seth holds a PhD in finance and is a Chartered Management Accountant. He served on both national and international conservation committees, platforms and forums dealing with various protocols relating to the environment, biodiversity and natural resources.
