Key Concerns

Take a look at some of the key concern areas that we seek to address.

The gospel is diminished without relevant acts of compassion that demonstrate the proclaimed word.

Focusing on whole person health is often seen as a distraction and not part of the real goal of missions to the unreached.

As a result, the church is not fulfilling her full calling to care for the whole person in the way of Jesus.

This is primarily because there is a lack of understanding of health from a biblical perspective.

Disease is often seen in reductionist terms as opposed to everything that diminishes the image of God within us.

According to the WHO, 41 million people die ‘prematurely’ from noncommunicable diseases each year.

Most of those at risk are connected to poverty and lack of access to adequate healthcare.

Climate change and poor stewardship of God's creation is having a negative impact on the health of people in the most vulnerable and unreached parts of the world.

Air pollution alone contributes to 6.7 million deaths globally each year.

1 in 2 people will develop a mental health disorder in their lifetime.

The church overall has uncertainty when dealing with mental health issues, and often nourishes the stigma plaguing mental health in society.

The church needs a robust, biblical view of health and what it means to be human, to be a protagonist in restoring strength and function to all dimensions of a person.

How can we see all being restored to a healthy life of following Jesus?

Core Ambition

We want to see the church take up its strategic role in whole-person health—understanding that mental, physical and spiritual concerns are bound together and need ministering to.

‘Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.’

Matthew 9:35

Take a moment to pray for your country and the health issues it is facing, and how the church can address these in a wholistic way.

So what can we do?

Proactively build partnerships between seminaries and Christian health science schools to develop a theology of health to be part of their core programs.
