Scripture Access and Engagement

Key Concerns

Take a look at some of the key concern areas that we seek to address.

The successes: Over 6 billion people have access to the full Bible in their language.

Portions of scripture have been translated into 3,658 languages—representing 97% of all people.

Bible translation over the last 50 years is deemed one of the great missionary successes of our time.

Never before have so many people had access to God’s word in their heart language.

Despite these successes, Bible poverty remains a serious concern.

For nearly 200 million people Bible translation in their heart language still needs to start.

More concerning: there are too many Christians who have the scriptures but only engage with them occasionally or not at all.

Never before has there been greater access to the Bible on multiple platforms and to resources that assist in interacting with scripture...

…yet we’re facing a wave of functional biblical illiteracy that is sapping the church of spiritual power and evangelistic fervour.

How can we see transformative scripture engagement thrive?

Core Ambition

We want to see the challenges to scriptural engagement for spiritual formation and world evangelisation being overcome.

‘Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked with us on the road, and while he opened the Scriptures to us?’

Luke 24:32

Take a moment to pray for individuals in your Christian community—that access to scripture would be valued with gratitude and used for personal spiritual formation and witness to Jesus Christ.

So what can we do?

Pray for the completion of the task for the whole word of God being available for all people; as well as for renewed commitment to scripture engagement by all Christians everywhere.

Scripture Engagement in a Digital Age

The onset of the digital age has radically reshaped how individuals interact with various forms of information, with religious texts, such as the Bible, being no exception.
