Business as Mission

Key Concerns

Take a look at some of the key concern areas that we seek to address.

Over 1 billion people live in abject poverty (living on less than $1 a day) and a further 8% of the global population lives in extreme poverty (under $2.15 per day).

Economic vulnerability and a lack of dignified jobs is a leading cause of human trafficking—a $150 billion industry worldwide.

There is global concern to lift people out of poverty.

This is happening…but not predominantly through aid or UN initiatives, but rather through trade and businesses.

Small and medium enterprises provide two thirds of all formal jobs in developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America, and 80% of jobs in low income countries.

Human flourishing requires wealth creation of all types, and wealth creation requires business.

There is no wealth to be shared unless it has first been created.

But, all too often, the issue of wealth creation is misunderstood, neglected, or even rejected by the church.

There are still over 7000 unreached people groups in the world—most living where traditional missionaries can’t go.

Yet the world is open to business people who are able to have a long-term influential role in their communities.

Over a lifetime the average person will spend 90 000 hours at work—a place of interaction with others where one can be a daily witness to the gospel.

Business as mission can make a difference in the lives of people and societies—spiritually, economically, socially and environmentally.

Core Ambition

How can we see business as mission thrive?

We want to see the church embrace business as central to our mission of holistic transformation of peoples and societies.

‘But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth’

Deuteronomy 8:18

Take a moment to pray for a Christian business owner or influencer you know—that they would be led by the Spirit to use their gifts to impact the world for Christ.

So what can we do?

Embrace and affirm business as a God-given calling, and wealth creation as central to our mission of holistic transformation of peoples and societies.
